Appalachian Trials Bloggers. Crystal Gail Welcome. Word from the Woods: Two-headed turtle, . Mountain lion in Maine? Talk Politics with a bunch of opinionated bowhunters and rednecks. The following awesome people are the official bloggers of the The Trek. In other words, they’re the renegade trail-folk who will be blogging their thru-hikes right. I grew up in Orange Park, Florida. Two weeks after receiving my Bachelors of Arts in Forensic Psychology, I spontaneously traveled to a small village in Kenya. There, I worked as a tree planter in the Kenyatta National Forest, in the morning. Then I would walk nearly five miles to teach Literature at a secondary school in the afternoon. My time in Kenya proved instrumental in helping me to uncover my love for education. Three years following, I received my Masters in Education certification from Florida State College. I relocated to Portland, Oregon and shortly after returned home to be closer to my Dad. Within weeks of developing those symptoms, I had my first of many brain surgeries. A shunt was placed to alleviate the symptoms of the rare brain disease, Intracranial Hypertension. After a series of surgeries spanning one years time, I moved to Fort Worth, Texas. ![]() It was there that I met Sarah, my partner of four years. Once reaching my 9th surgery, I sought out a specialist and found one in Atlanta, Georgia. Here, I received treatment at Emory Healthcare and was fitted with a Medtronic Neuromodulator (The neuromodulator redirects pain signals to the brain). Because I live with a medical implant and it gives me the power to do things I haven’t or couldn’t do otherwise. However, the neuromodulator changed everything. At the age of 3. 3 (at the time of this entry I am 3. I started running. My determination and desire to live a healthy, full life lead to my acceptance as a 2. Medtronic Global Heroes team member. My new goal is to be the first neuromodulator implant recipient to thru- hike the 2,6. Pacific Crest Trail. I will embark upon my journey in April 2. ![]()
It takes a boy from 10 to 13 years to progress from Lion to Webelos to Eagle Scout and, along that scouting trail, he is guided by many adults - den leaders.
